Meet the Author of this Crew story, –
Andreea Nica (26) – Housekeeper, from Ploiesti, Romania
For some, ship life is just a job. For Andreea, it became a calling. In just a few years, she went from Stateroom Attendant to Housekeeper, learning, adapting and growing at every step. Her journey reflects not just hard work, but the heart.
Starting from the Beginning
My name is Andreea , I’m from Romania and I’m currently a Housekeeping Manager for Avalon Europe.
I’ve been working in housekeeping since 2018, but life on ships is something completely different. It’s more than just a job. It’s about knowledge, friendship, helping others and meeting wonderful people from all over the world.
I’ve always enjoyed working with people. And the truth is, you can learn something from everyone – guests included.
When My Journey Began
Let me take you back to how I got here.
In 2022, after the pandemic, I applied for a Stateroom Attendant position. I passed the interview, and that’s when my ship adventure began. Everything was totally new to me, but I learned quickly. On ships, that’s a huge advantage.
By 2023, I was already training for a Housekeeper position. In 2024, I was officially promoted. I believe it was part of God’s plan, but there was also a lot of hard work happening behind the scenes. Nothing comes to anyone without a proper investment first.
Appreciation and Growth
Now here I am in 2025, – already two years into this role.
I’m grateful that Avalon recognises hard work. They give everyone a chance to grow, if you’re willing to take it. Being here allows me to improve, to be better at what I do and to feel appreciated. That makes all the difference.
What Ship Life Has Given Me
Today, I see ship life as a part of who I am.
I can’t really imagine myself doing anything else. This life teaches you patience. It teaches you how to manage difficult moments. And most importantly, it helps you appreciate what you have – even when things aren’t easy.
The Last Word
We just need to remember: there’s always something pink in every story, – you just have to know where to look for it.
I just #LoveAvalonEurope
