Meet the Author of this Crew Story –
Faith Mwende Wambua (28) – Stateroom Attendant, from Kenya

There are people whose presence brings a natural warmth into every room. Faith Wambua Mwende is one of them. Her smile, her quiet strength and her sincerity make her not only a valued colleague, but a symbol of everything Avalon Europe stands for: opportunity, unity and pride in service.

As one of Avalon’s rising stars, Faith opens up about what it means to bring her Kenyan spirit to European rivers, and how the journey has changed her forever.

Faith, what brought you from Kenya’s landscapes to the rivers of Europe and what gave you the courage to take that first step?

I dreamed of a bigger world, better life and advanced career. My courage came from my mother, faith and the belief that I could grow beyond borders.

How would you describe the difference between the spirit of hospitality in Kenya and the one you now offer as part of Avalon Europe?

Hospitality is universal, is family. I brought that same warmth – a real smile, genuine care – and it still guides me every day.

In your community, there’s often a strong sense of ubuntu – ‘I am because we are.’ Have you found a similar sense of togetherness among your onboard team?

Yes. we lift each other up. On board, we’re not just coworkers. We’re family from different nations, united by purpose.

Many guests may not know the journey it takes to become part of this world as a young African woman. What do you wish people understood about that path and about you?

It’s a journey of strength and sacrifices. But behind every uniform is a story of courage, hope and fulfilled dreams.

What’s something small you do every day in your role as a Stateroom Attendant that you believe makes a big difference to someone else’s journey?

Warm greetings and smile in the morning. A perfect fold. A kind gesture. It’s the little things that make guests feel seen and that matters.

Has your experience with Avalon changed how you see your future and if so, how does it now look compared to before?

Yes. I see possibilities now and dream bigger. I believe in more for myself and for others like me.

Kenya is often described as ‘Magical’, from its people to its land. Do you ever find pieces of that magic in your life on board?

I find it in the sunrise, guest fulfillment, the laughter, the spirit of people. That magic follows me wherever I go.

You’re now a voice for many young women from your region who may one day want to follow in your footsteps. What do you want them to know?

It’s hard but it’s worth it. The joy of fulfilled dreams, independence, discovery, and purpose will carry you through the tough days.

Is there a moment on board, maybe a guest interaction or a team achievement, that made you feel especially proud to be part of Avalon?

A guest once said I reminded them of their young self and things she had to do to get where she is. The motivation. That simple kindness reminded me how deeply we can impact others.

What does it mean to you to represent Kenya within such an international team, and how do you carry that honour every day?

It’s an honour I wear with pride. Thank you for the recognition.

I carry my culture in how I work, how I serve, and how I treat others with heart.
ASANTE SANA.
