Every great leader begins as someone who simply loves what they do.
For Denisa, that love has always been for people – for the connection, the challenge, and the quiet reward of hospitality done with heart.
With more than 14 years of experience across international hotels and cruise operations, she joined Avalon Europe at the end of last year and quickly became a valued part of our community. Her approach to leadership blends empathy with structure and professionalism with warmth – a balance that perfectly reflects Avalon Europe’s culture.
In this conversation, Denisa shares her journey through hospitality, the lessons that shaped her leadership, and her honest reflections on what makes Avalon Europe a place where ambition and humanity truly meet.
A Career Built on People
“I’ve always loved working with people, and I think that’s what naturally drew me to hospitality. My career started more than a decade ago in the housekeeping department for a short period, where I learned the importance of genuine service and attention to detail. From there, I worked my way up through different roles – from Night Auditor to Receptionist, then Front Office Manager, Purser, Assistant Hotel Manager, and Hotel Manager – and discovered how rewarding it is to create memorable experiences for guests and personal growth. The teamwork, the chance to meet people and different cultures from all over the world made me fall in love with this profession.”
Defining Moments Before Avalon
“One of the most defining experiences was working in a leading position for the first time, where I managed a diverse international team. I gained valuable experience and learned how to be patient, how to adapt to different situations, and how to keep my calm under pressure. Another important period was when I took a short break from hospitality and realised how much I missed it. That time helped me see that this is more than just a job for me – it’s a passion and what I do best.”
Joining Avalon Europe
“I first heard about Avalon Europe from a former colleague who spoke very highly of the company, especially about how valued and supported the crew feel. What motivated me most was the opportunity to work in a setting where service quality and team wellbeing are very important.”
Lessons from the First Season
“There have been many meaningful moments since I joined Avalon Europe, but the most important ones are always when guests tell me how welcome they felt or how much they appreciated the crew’s warmth. It’s a reminder that small gestures can make a big difference. On a personal level, I’ve also learned how strong and united our onboard teams become when you create a safe place to work, where my team knows that no matter the situation, we find solutions together. No matter how busy things get, we support each other. Always treat others like you want to be treated.”
Culture of Collaboration
“Avalon’s culture feels very people centred. There’s a genuine respect between departments and a focus on collaboration rather than hierarchy. I’ve worked for companies where the atmosphere was more rigid, but here it feels open and appreciated – where you can share ideas and they are truly listened to. That makes a big difference in how motivated and happy the team feels.”
The Avalon Difference
“The biggest difference is the balance between professionalism and humanity. Avalon expects high standards but it also cares about the people delivering those standards. The company recognises crew effort and supports growth. You really feel like part of a family here.”
Overcoming the Transition
“Every company has its own way of doing things, so naturally there was a learning curve. The first challenge was adapting to new systems and procedures, especially onboard reporting. I overcame that with the help of my colleagues – everyone was patient and willing to explain. The team’s support made the transition much smoother.”
The Heart of Leadership
“Empathy. You can’t lead effectively if you don’t understand your people, their challenges, their strengths or capacity. Onboard life can be demanding and a good leader knows when to push for excellence and when to show compassion. I also believe in leading by example. If your team sees you working hard and staying positive, they’ll follow you.”
Advice for Women in Leadership
“Believe in your abilities and don’t let doubt hold you back. The hospitality industry and especially ship life can be tough, but women bring incredible strength, organisation and emotional intelligence to leadership roles. Stay professional, be confident in your knowledge and never stop learning.”
Goals and Balance
“As a leader, I want to keep developing my team and helping others grow – this gives me a lot of satisfaction. My personal goal is to maintain a healthy balance between work and my personal life. It’s easy to get consumed by the fast pace of ship life, but taking time to recharge helps me show up as the best version of myself both for my team and for our guests.”

Leadership, at its best, is never loud – it’s present.
Through her story, Denisa reminds us that excellence begins with empathy and that success is built not only on standards but on understanding.
Her journey is a reflection of Avalon Europe’s greatest strength: its people. Those who lead with care, who elevate others through example and who find meaning in every small act of service.
Because here, leadership isn’t defined by position – it’s defined by purpose.
