Avalon Europe is seeking experienced Captains to lead our luxury river cruise ships, ensuring the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of both guests and crew. As the Captain, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the ship’s navigation, managing crew operations, and ensuring compliance with maritime laws and regulations. Your leadership will be essential in maintaining high standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence, all while delivering an exceptional guest experience.
In this role, you will manage and supervise the crew, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth daily operations. You will oversee the ship’s navigation, including maintaining course, speed, and maneuverability, and ensure that all maritime laws, safety protocols, and best practices are followed. Additionally, you will be responsible for the maintenance of the ship’s equipment and systems, conducting routine inspections and repairs as necessary. Effective communication with guests, crew, and other vessels, as well as managing the ship’s budget and inventory, are also key responsibilities of this position.
To excel as a Captain, you should possess a bachelor’s degree in maritime studies or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred. You must have at least 5 years of experience as a Captain, ideally within the river cruise industry, and hold a valid captain’s license. A deep understanding of maritime laws, navigation, and engineering systems is essential, along with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ship management software is required.
