As a Deckhand All Around (Technic / Nautic) for Avalon Europe, you will be a key contributor to the safe, efficient and reliable operation of our vessels, combining technical support with essential nautical duties. This role places you at the heart of daily ship operations, where you support both the engineering and nautical teams to ensure smooth sailing, guest safety and operational excellence across Europe’s rivers. Your work directly supports the onboard experience, even when it happens behind the scenes.

Your responsibilities include assisting with routine maintenance and minor repairs of ship and hotel equipment, monitoring and updating the electronic repair logbook (E-log), and responding to guest-related technical requests in areas such as cabins, reception, galley and laundry. You will independently handle small repairs, report larger issues to the engineer, support inventory management and contribute to cost-efficient and well-organised technical processes. On the nautical side, you will assist with gangway operations, docking and undocking, lock passages, safety monitoring and on-board deliveries, while also performing general ship care such as rope and wire checks, deck maintenance, cleaning and painting tasks.

To succeed in this role, you should bring a hands-on mindset, strong sense of responsibility and high safety awareness. A good command of English and a valid Schifferdienstbuch are required, while previous experience in technical or nautical roles is an advantage. Reliability, willingness to learn and a respectful, service-oriented attitude toward guests and crew are essential. Avalon Europe offers a Swiss contract, competitive salary and insurance package, flexible working hours and the opportunity to build a long-term career while navigating some of Europe’s most beautiful waterways.
